This course introduces the essential roles and responsibilities of a Close Protection Operative (CPO), focusing on professional duties, principal protection, teamwork, communication, and operational accountability. Students will develop an understanding of how CPOs support protective operations, maintain professional standards, manage responsibilities, and contribute to the safety and security of protected individuals.
A Close Protection Operative plays an important role in protecting individuals who may face personal, professional, or security-related risks. This course examines the duties, responsibilities, and professional expectations associated with working as a Close Protection Operative in different protective environments. Students will explore the professional role of a CPO, the relationship between the operative and the principal, operational responsibilities, and the importance of working within established authority and procedures.
The course introduces responsibilities associated with operational preparation, situational awareness, communication, teamwork, information handling, and maintaining continuity throughout a protective assignment. Particular attention is given to professional conduct, discretion, confidentiality, accountability, and the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries with principals and supporting personnel. Students will also examine the importance of following instructions, reporting relevant information, understanding legal and organizational limitations, and contributing to operational reviews.
The course uses practical examples and professional scenarios to demonstrate how individual responsibilities contribute to an organized protective operation. Upon completion, students will have a foundational understanding of the professional expectations placed upon Close Protection Operatives and be prepared for further study in protective operations, operational planning, team coordination, and close protection management.
